Community Public Education Campaigns
From 2006-2011, WIVP, with United Way of Siouxland, sponsored yearly violence prevention public education campaigns, each with different themes. Along with TV and radio spots, in partnership with Futures without Violence and the AD Council, we created print campaigns, that included wallet cards for parents and students, posters, and billboards. Our ad budget was enhanced three fold by our generous media partners, including KTIV, KMEG, KCAU, Powell Broadcasting, Clear Channel, KPTH, Cable One, the Sioux City Journal, and Avery Brothers Outdoor. Creative was enhanced by Futures without Violence and Avery Brothers. We thank all our partners for making this possible. The ad campaign created high recall in the community and a full 73% of adults in an independent mid point survey in 2009 reported having talked to kids about violence and bullying.
The first three years focused mainly on preventing violence by asking men being role models to boys about respecting women and girls.
By 2009-2010, we broadened the message to reach kids as well as adults and add anti bullying messages in addition to teen dating violence.
