a day, 365 days a year. With a database
of more than 4,000 shelters and service
providers across the United States, Puerto
Rico, Alaska, Hawaii and the U.S. Virgin
Islands, the Hotline provides callers
with information they might otherwise
have found difficult or impossible to
obtain.

For more than two decades, the Family
Violence Prevention Fund (FVPF) has worked
to end violence against women and children
around the world and was instrumental in
developing the landmark Violence Against
Women Act passed by Congress in 1994. World

The Violence Prevention Alliance (VPA)
is a network of WHO Member State governments,
nongovernmental and community-based organizations,
and private, international and intergovernmental
agencies working to prevent violence.
VPA participants share a public health
approach that targets the root causes
and risk factors underlying the likelihood
of an individual becoming involved in
violence and recognizes the need for
improved services to mitigate the harmful
effects of violence when it does occur. United
